Billboard Depicts L.A. in Mexico
In the center of the billboard, placed within the L.A. skyline, is an image of the Angel of Independence, a well-known monument in Mexico City, further suggesting the merging of Los Angeles and Mexico.
Last month, ClearChannel, the apparent owner of the billboard, announced a "Multicultural Sales and Marketing Initiative" to expand its focus on "serving the fast-growing U.S. Hispanic and African American population."
For those who don't see illegal immigration as a war, consider this advertisement. This billboard is not designed to appeal to good natured legal immigrants who are willing to abide by our laws, customs and traditions and assimilate into our cultural melting pot. This ad is something that would appeal to the people who feel the United States of America is not the rightful owner of the Southwestern states and that it is time for Mexico to take it back. The owner of this billboard would not have spent money on it if they did not have good reason to believe that it would appeal to a large demographic and draw viewers to their station.
For those who think it wrong for me to assume that this sort of billboard would be pro-illegal alien, read The Oath of Citizenship that all naturalized citizens must take:
I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God. In acknowledgement whereof I have hereunto affixed my signature.(Bold text emphasis added by me)
