Arm the Teachers?
"I'm not saying that that means every teacher should have a gun or not, but what I am saying is we need to look at all the options at what will truly protect the students," the NRA's first vice president, Sandra S. Froman, told The Associated Press. The article goes on to mention how students have illegally used guns to kill their classmates, and how gun control and unarmed guards obviously aren't an effective way to prevent crazy people from hurting others in schools. Froman also pointed out:"No gun law, no policy that you could implement now or that was already implemented, I think, could possibly prevent someone so intent on destruction," she said. "I think everything's on the table as far as looking at what we need to do to make our schools safe for our students."
Froman said if it is the responsibility of teachers to protect students in a school, "then we as a society, we as a community have to provide a way for the teachers to do that."
the 1997 school shooting incident in Pearl, Miss., where a teacher retrieved a gun from his car when a student opened fire, then held the student at bay until police arrived. Before anti-gun readers go crazy over this article, think about it for a minute. We give guns to police officers, air marshals, pilots and other people to help keep us safe. Why not allows teachers to defend themselves and your children from violence? Teachers are already entrusted with educating your children and with this trust they have ample opportunity to harm them intellectually and emotionally. For the most part people trust teachers not to molest kids, not to brainwash them with their pet political and religious views, etc. Why not trust a teacher to defend your kids in the classroom? I'd rather see rampaging students gunned down by a teacher before they can shoot to death a bunch of their classmates. We've already proven that making it illegal for minors to have hand guns, making it illegal to bring guns to schools and making it illegal to murder people doesn't stop these crimes from happening. Let's give something else a try and see if it works.
